Lebanon Woman Returns Home to Rubble After Israeli Attacks
Tayr Debba Home Reduced to Rubble by Israeli Attacks
Zahra Eid returned to her home in Tayr Debba, southern Lebanon, after the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon came into effect. She found her house, along with many others in her neighborhood, reduced to rubble by Israeli attacks. She painstakingly searched through the debris, trying to salvage any remaining memories from her destroyed home.
Loss of Life's Work and Uncertain Future
Zahra Eid managed to salvage a few items from the wreckage, including a photograph of her late husband. Having returned to the south with her three daughters, she now faces the reality of having no home and must move in with her sister. She expressed deep sadness over the destruction, stating that her "life's hard work is now gone" and that she has to rebuild. The situation, she noted, is vastly different from before. Zahra emphasized that even if twenty houses were rebuilt, the memories would remain in her mind.
Widespread Displacement in Lebanon
Israeli attacks on Lebanon have led to the displacement of approximately 1.2 million people. Tayr Debba, being close to the Israeli border, has suffered significant damage due to ongoing hostilities between the two sides, forcing many residents to flee for safety. Even after the ceasefire, the future remains uncertain for these displaced communities, and extensive support for reconstruction and recovery is urgently needed.
