McCormick Warns of AI Revolution Risks, Triple Energy Demand
AI Revolution: Opportunities and Risks
Senator David McCormick (R-Pa.) described the AI revolution as "the most profound moment of change in our lifetimes." He noted that Americans are rightly concerned about how AI will affect them. While a champion of AI on Capitol Hill, McCormick acknowledged that it comes with risks to Americans, the environment, and the economy that must be mitigated.
Rising Energy Demand and Congressional Response
McCormick argued that Americans have more money under President Donald Trump, but admitted consumers don't feel it due to rising housing, energy, and healthcare costs. He stated, "Energy demand is going to triple in the next 15 years," emphasizing that Congress must ensure these costs do not burden Americans. To address this, McCormick introduced a bill with Senator Christopher Coons (D-Del.) to foster liquid cooling technology, aiming to boost data centers while keeping utility bills down.
AI Race with China Concerns
As a former CEO of hedge fund Bridgewater Associates, McCormick has championed AI in the Senate, last year announcing $70 billion in AI and energy investments for Pennsylvania. He has warned that the U.S. cannot afford to lose the AI race with China. McCormick stated, "We have to lead the innovation because the consequences of China being the leader in AI could reshape the world."
