Kanye West Postpones Marseille Concert Amid Antisemitic Remarks Controversy
Marseille Concert Postponed in France
Just one day after France's Interior Minister indicated the government would seek to ban Kanye West's (now known as Ye) upcoming concert in Marseille, the rapper took to social media to announce its postponement. He wrote on X that 'after much thought and consideration, it is my sole decision to postpone my show in Marseille, France until further notice.' Last month, Benoît Payan, the Mayor of Marseille, had stated he would not let his city be 'a showcase for those who promote hatred and unabashed Nazism.'
Past Controversies Over Antisemitic and Nazi Sympathizing Remarks
Ye has drawn widespread condemnation for making antisemitic statements and voicing admiration for Adolf Hitler. Last year, he released a song titled 'Hail Hitler' and sold T-shirts featuring a swastika on his website before they were taken down. In January, Ye placed a full-page advertisement in the Wall Street Journal, denying he was a Nazi or an antisemite, and attributing his actions to bipolar disorder, which he said led to paranoia and impulsive behavior. Last week, the Wireless Music Festival in the UK, where he was scheduled to headline, was canceled after he was banned from entering the country.
