To mark the 15th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake, a moment of silence and floral tributes were offered in Asahi City, Chiba Prefecture, to honor the victims. Fifteen years ago, during the earthquake, strong tremors and a tsunami were observed in Chiba Prefecture. According to the prefecture, 14 people died in Asahi City, and 2 people remain missing to this day. The memorial ceremony was solemnly held at 2:46 PM, the exact time the earthquake struck.
Mayor's Pledge and Voices of Bereaved Families
Mayor Yonemoto, who attended the ceremony, stated his commitment to building a disaster-resilient city through continuous cooperation with relevant agencies. A citizen participating in the floral tribute said, "My aunt went missing, so I try to come whenever I can," recalling the pain of that time. When asked if it has truly been 15 years, he replied, "It's truly fast," conveying the enduring sense of loss and grief despite the passage of time.
