CPPCC Concludes and Chairman Wang Huning's Remarks
The 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) concluded its fourth session on the morning of March 6. Chairman Wang Huning stated that '2026 marks the beginning of the '15th Five-Year Plan'' and emphasized that the CPPCC must firmly uphold its intrinsic position and mission, accurately identify the main entry points, convergence points, and focal points for the development of the '15th Five-Year Plan' to fully leverage its role as a specialized consultative body. He added that all parties, organizations, ethnic groups, and sectors participating in the CPPCC should extensively pool hearts, build consensus, gather wisdom, and consolidate strength for a strong start to the '15th Five-Year Plan'. Party and state leaders, including President Xi Jinping, also attended the meeting. Resolutions, including the work report of the CPPCC Standing Committee, were passed with 2,059 votes in favor.
Hong Kong's Contribution to National Development and Sports Events
Zhou Haiming, Deputy Director of the CPPCC's Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Committee, highlighted that Hong Kong can play four important roles by integrating well into the national development strategy and the '15th Five-Year Plan'. The roles presented are: a base for mainland enterprises to go global, a powerful engine for industrial innovation, a connecting bridge for institutional innovation, and a catalyst for green products. Zhou Haiming noted that last year, 119 companies listed in Hong Kong, raising 285.8 billion Hong Kong dollars, which ranked first globally. Furthermore, Liu Guoliang, Chairman of the World Table Tennis (WTT) Professional League Board, stated that Hong Kong has the capability to host excellent international competitions, evaluating last year's WTT Finals held in Hong Kong as highly successful. Yu Guoliang, Chairman of the Hong Kong Table Tennis Association, reported that the Hong Kong table tennis team is actively preparing for the Asian Games.
China's Stance on the Middle East Situation
Foreign Minister Wang Yi pointed out that the root cause of the Middle East conflict lies in a lack of legitimacy and legality, urging the cessation of US military actions as a fundamental way to prevent the situation from escalating. Wang Yi criticized that as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China has always maintained a fair and just stance on international issues, and the military actions by the United States and United Kingdom against Iran without UN Security Council approval clearly violate the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and the basic norms of international relations. China opposes attacks on Gulf states and attacks on civilian facilities and innocent civilians, calling for an immediate ceasefire and a political resolution.
