Istanbul's Kayasehir Hosts Diverse Events for Ramadan
Istanbul Kayasehir's Vibrant Ramadan
In Kayasehir, a rapidly developing district of Istanbul, Ramadan holds a dual meaning of community and reflection. Each evening, city authorities organize Ramadan programs catering to various age groups. Children gather around stages to watch traditional performances such as Karagoz and Hacivat shadow plays, Nasreddin Hodja stories, and puppet shows. Ahmed Hussein, a resident, shared, 'The events are really great and they affect children even more. Children are happy, excited, and having fun.'
Diverse Experiences and an International Atmosphere
Nearby activity tents host arts and crafts workshops, traditional calligraphy, and handicraft demonstrations. Other sections focus on technology, attracting young visitors and families with VR experiences, video game stations, and even flight simulators. Food stalls selling local snacks and traditional drinks operate throughout the evening. Another resident, Vedat Balamir, remarked, 'It’s better than last year and the year before that. There are shops and many different foods.' He added, 'I'm satisfied that I can also enjoy food from different cultures.' Hisham further commented, 'It's cold outside now, but everyone is having a good time and there's good food too.'
Ramadan Together, a Special Community Bond
For many residents, the daily routine during Ramadan—fasting during the day and gathering in shared public spaces after sunset—repeats throughout the month. This signifies that Ramadan is not only a month of worship but also of shared time. Young Omar said, 'Ramadan is a holy month. I have many friends from other countries.' He added that Kayasehir is considered the district that most looks forward to Ramadan, showcasing the special bond within the community.
