Meta Acquires 'AI Social Media' Maltbook
Meta, the parent company of social media giant Facebook, is acquiring Maltbook, a social media platform exclusively for 'Artificial Intelligence (AI) agents'. This move is interpreted as an effort to secure an early lead in the ecosystem of the upcoming era of AI agents that will act on behalf of humans. According to foreign media reports, including Axios, on the 10th (local time), Meta will acquire Maltbook, and Matt Schlicht, Maltbook's CEO, along with Ben Parr, COO, are expected to join the Meta Superintelligence Research Lab. The Meta Superintelligence Research Lab is headed by Alexander Wang.
Focus on AI Agent Connection Methods and Future Prospects
Maltbook, which positions itself as a social media exclusively for AI agents, emerged earlier this year, boosted by the popularity of OpenClo. Currently, it is reported that 194,000 agents are registered, and over 2 million posts have been created. Meta has noted Maltbook's proposed method for agent-to-agent connection, expressing its anticipation to collaborate in "delivering innovative and safe agent-based experiences to everyone." This acquisition is interpreted as a strategy to prepare for a future era where AI agents interact and collaborate without human intervention. Already, Google is also showing increased interest in this field, developing the A2A protocol for agent interactions.
