15th Anniversary of Great East Japan Earthquake: Recovery Status
Fifteen years have passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake and the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident occurred on March 11. Infrastructure development in the affected regions is now largely complete. Significant progress has been made in restoring essential social infrastructure such as roads and ports, demonstrating considerable success in the visible aspects of recovery.
Long-Term Challenges: Depopulation and Aging
However, the affected prefectures are facing new challenges due to intensifying depopulation and an aging population. This has led to a decline in the vitality of local communities, and the crucial task remains: how to continuously support the lives of individual residents from a long-term perspective.
