Peru's Ayna Village Inundated by River Overflow Following Heavy Rains
Flood Damage Situation
The Ayna village in Peru's Ayacucho region is suffering extensive damage due to a river overflowing following successive heavy rains. On March 9th, the swollen river covered homes and streets, leaving them submerged in mud. Previously, hundreds of homes were destroyed on March 6th due to river overflow. Videos show mud-laden water flowing through the village, with rocks and debris carried by the current piled up in various locations.
Authorities' Recovery and Aid Efforts
Eduardo Huacoto Díaz, General Manager of the Ayacucho Regional Government, stated that the river had overflowed and reported that recovery efforts are underway, including measures to protect homes and the deployment of heavy equipment to divert the river's flow. He added that constant efforts are being made to help the river regain its original course, even as the rain continues. Videos show excavators and dump trucks removing mud and debris, as well as residents actively clearing mud, illustrating the ongoing recovery efforts at the scene.
