Following airstrikes by the United States and Israel, Iran has blockaded the Strait of Hormuz, reportedly stranding over 20 South Korean vessels and approximately 180 crew members. An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told reporters this morning that these vessels are currently anchored in safe locations, posing no major issues.
Plans for Evacuation of Korean Nationals and Supply Provision
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that most vessels have sufficient supplies stockpiled. It also explained that local diplomatic missions are in close communication with host countries to facilitate the entry and provision of necessary supplies. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs official added that while subject to change, an additional 30 Korean nationals from Israel and around 10 from Iran may need to be evacuated, and preparations are underway for further evacuation plans targeting Korean nationals in both countries.
