Lebanon-Syria Border Tensions Escalate
The Syrian government has accused Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon of firing shells into Syrian territory, signaling heightened tensions along the Lebanese border. According to Syrian state media, shells fired from Lebanon landed near the village of Serghaya, west of Damascus. A Syrian military official warned that any aggression would not be tolerated. Meanwhile, the Israeli military announced it had destroyed a rocket launcher in southern Lebanon. This launcher was reportedly used for projectiles fired towards northern Israel.
Casualties and Political Condemnation in Lebanon
As Israeli airstrikes intensify across Lebanon, including Beirut, the Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that at least 486 people have died and 1,313 have been injured since the fighting began on Monday. The Iranian-backed Hezbollah stated that it carried out attacks in retaliation for Israel's offensive. Israel claimed to have eliminated the head of Hezbollah's Nasr Unit, which operates in southern Lebanon, while Hezbollah stated it attacked Israeli bases in Tel Aviv with missiles. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun strongly criticized Hezbollah, stating that it is pushing Lebanon towards 'state collapse,' but Hezbollah maintained its actions were 'self-defense' and emphasized it would continue to fight at any cost.
