Carolina Freshman Switches from Chemistry to AI Major
Freshman Lila Megyeri Shifts Academic Focus to AI
Lila Megyeri, a freshman at the University of Carolina, has transitioned her academic path to Artificial Intelligence (AI), now serving as both a pre-med student and an AI Fellow. Initially skeptical of AI, she now sees it as an opportunity. Megyeri was captivated by how AI touches almost every aspect of our lives and spans various disciplines, and she currently holds responsibilities as an AI Fellow at the Library AI Studio. She plans to pursue an interdisciplinary major focusing on the relationship between humans and AI.
From Chemistry to AI: The Catalyst for Change
Hungarian-born Megyeri was initially deeply interested in chemistry, nurturing dreams of becoming a scientist. She considered chemistry to be the most interdisciplinary science, but as she prepared for university, she began to notice AI's increasing prevalence in daily life. She explained that seeing AI being used not only by coding experts but also by the general public, she became fascinated by its interdisciplinary nature and infinite opportunities. As her interest in chemistry waned and her passion for AI grew, she decided to change her major. The University of Carolina is currently operating as usual.
