India Grants Entry to Iranian Warship IRIS Lavan at Kochi Port
Iranian Warship IRIS Lavan Docks at India's Kochi Port
According to Indian government sources, the Iranian naval vessel IRIS Lavan requested entry into India's Kochi Port on February 28, with permission granted on March 1. IRIS Lavan has been berthed at Kochi Port since March 4, and its crew has been accommodated at naval facilities in Kochi. The vessel is reported to be the third Iranian ship to enter Kochi Port since March 4.
IRIS Dena Sinking Incident and Escalating Regional Tensions
The entry of IRIS Lavan comes just days after the United States sank another Iranian vessel, IRIS Dena, in international waters near Sri Lanka. WION journalist Sidhant Sibal reported that IRIS Dena was shot down by the U.S., resulting in the deaths of approximately 100 sailors. At the time, IRIS Dena was unarmed and sailing for ceremonial purposes to participate in an Indian fleet review.
Iran emphasized that its vessels were guests of the Indian government, and these circumstances highlight the escalating tensions in the West Asian region. India's decision is regarded as an example of a balanced diplomatic approach, demonstrating its role as a responsible nation in the region.
